Aurora Storm
On the evening of October 10th, after switching off the TV following Greece’s well-deserved victory over a lacklustre England team, I glanced out the bedroom window before turning in for the night. To my surprise and delight, waves of green and red aurora were dancing across the sky, vivid enough to break through the light pollution from the surrounding streets.
I quickly headed to my local beach at Pensarn to capture the spectacle, spending an hour immersed in the unfolding magic. Despite a cloudy sky, the phenomenon was easily captured by my iPhone 15 Pro Max, with Night Mode playing a huge role. I took shots ranging from 5 to 30 seconds, with the longer exposures made possible by using a tripod.
The dazzling Northern Lights display was seen through much of the UK, triggered by solar activity as charged particles interacted with gases in the Earth's atmosphere. These collisions release light at various wavelengths, creating vivid, colorful patterns in the sky.
